8 · Mutual Beneficence

"The fulfillment of our desires, made to serve those around us."
Mutual Beneficence is the commitment to engage life such that the fulfillment of our own desires serves those around us rather than costing them. It presupposes inherent value in every being and every encounter, and attends, always, to drawing that value further into the light. Where so much fulfillment in the extractive world is bought at another's expense, here the fulfillment of self and other can become a single motion, and the work proposes that a field is thereby created in which each person's flourishing quietly raises the floor for everyone they meet.
Self and collective benefit will not always align. The practice requires naming tradeoffs instead of declaring them dissolved. Beneficence loses meaning when someone else's cost is hidden outside the frame.
